*Welcome*

*Welcome*

My mother used to spend her Sunday mornings sipping hot coffee at the kitchen table and pouring over the paper, with her pearl handled scissors always close by. She would meticulously clip coupons and file them away. I have taken up this habit, but since the economy is SO bad, I have taken it one step further. The way to save the most money isn't easy, but nowadays, it seems to be necessary.

Here's my first secret to saving yourself at least half on what you spend per week on food:

Invest in the Sunday paper, whatever
fliers you can pick up from a couple different grocery stores ( don't forget specialty stores such as Trader Joe's, QFC, and New Seasons) Also, pick up whatever free papers are available in your city. In Portland we have the Willamette Week and The Mercury. These often clue readers in to specials that bars and restaurants are providing. Then pour yourself a hot cup of coffee and get to cutting. Being organized is important. Also note that if there is a particular item that you're eyeing, chances are you can go on the merchandiser website and print out what is called a "merchandiser" coupon. This can be used alone or with a coupon that a store may be offering. I can't tell you how many times I have gotten an item for next to nothing because of combining coupons.

That's my spiel on coupons. Next time I write I will explain the secrets of the happy hour. Here's a preview. Did you know that McCormick and
Schmick's has a happy hour menu that includes two dollar full size cheeseburgers, shrimp ceviche and more? I'll go into that next time.
